The world’s top emerging fashion designers are being called to apply for New Zealand’s leading fashion awards – the iD International Emerging Designer Awards.

Celebrating its 12th year, the Awards will be held on Thursday, March 17 2016 in Dunedin, New Zealand.

It is open to any recent graduate (within the past five years) or final-year student enrolled in a recognised diploma, BDes, BA, MA Fashion, or other related area from around the world.

The Awards catwalk show is a much-anticipated part of iD Dunedin Fashion Week – held from March 12-20, 2016 – which is largely funded by premier sponsor, the Dunedin City Council.

This year, all applications must be made online through the iD Fashion Week website.

Around 30 finalists are chosen from a pool of hundreds.

In the past, the judging panel has included leading designers such as UK milliner Stephen Jones and Paris-based designers Martin Grant and Lutz Huelle.

Top prizes of NZ$6000 for First Place, NZ$4000 for Second Place and NZ$2000 for Third Place are on offer, plus other cash and special prizes yet to be announced.

Otago Polytechnic School of Design fashion professor Dr Margo Barton said this is a unique opportunity for designers.

“The Awards are valued so highly by design educators that, at the end of 2014, Otago Polytechnic came on board as a major sponsor of the event.

“All our finalists get to meet and be critiqued by some of the world’s leading fashion notables, which can open doors in ways they’ve never imagined. Internships, networking opportunities, and the chance to show at a world event, this is an essential event for all emerging designers.”

iD International Emerging Designer Award applications must be received by 30 November, 2015.
