Global fashion resale platform Depop is dropping selling fees for all sellers based in Australia from July 22, following similar moves by its new owner, eBay, in the Australian market.

According to Depop, Australia is one of the platform’s fastest-growing markets globally, with the axing of selling fees hoping to make fashion resale more accessible. Depop’s monthly site visits in May this year were up by 54 per cent year-on-year, hitting 2.84 million according to Semrush.

For comparison, its new owner eBay pulls in around 26 million visits per month.

“The growth of Depop's Australian community has been remarkable, and so much of that is down to the sellers and buyers who have helped build the platform into what it is today,” Depop CEO Peter Semple said. “Every item on our platform starts with someone who chooses to list it, style it, photograph it, and ship it.

“Removing selling fees means more of every sale stays with the people who earned it and we hope it will encourage more people to take their first step into selling secondhand. We want selling on Depop in Australia to be as rewarding as possible, and this is one of a number of investments to make that happen.”

According to Depop, its sellers in Australia who complete at least one sale generate an average of $502 in sales in their first year on the platform. Since launching in 2011, more than $10.5 billion has been transacted on Depop globally.

A 2026 report by ThredUp found that the global second-hand apparel market is projected to reach US$393 billion by 2030, which is more than two times faster than the overall apparel market. In 2026, the report shows the global market value sat at US$289 billion.

The axing of selling fees broadly aligns Australia with Depop's fee structure in the United Kingdom and the United States, where removing selling fees saw a 30–45 per cent increase in listings.

The removal of selling fees is part of a wider update to Depop’s fee structure, which also includes the introduction of a marketplace fee for buyers in Australia from July 22 onwards.

Payment processing fees and boosting fees will continue to apply. A buyer marketplace fee of up to 5 per cent of the item purchase price (excluding taxes and shipping costs), plus up to $1 AUD, will apply from July 22.

According to Depop, the marketplace fee allows the platform to continually invest in its business, including 24/7 customer support and securing transactions.
