Decjuba has joined forces with textile recycling business Upparel to encourage the community to reduce their textile waste.

Throughout August, Decjuba customers have been able to recycle their old denim (of any brand, wash, or quality) at any of the retailer's 140 women’s or girl’s stores, or via it’s 'add-to-cart' digital method.

The 'add-to-cart' solution allows customers to add a prepaid post satchel to any online order, allowing them to place their old denim into the satchel and post it for recycling.

Since launch, the initiative has already seen significant results with 2,241 satchels ordered via the online add-to-cart model.

Decjuba owner and CEO Tania Austin welcomed the launch of the partnership.

"As part of our ongoing commitment towards a more sustainable future, I am incredibly proud to announce our partnership with Upparel and assist in their mission is to reduce the number of textiles that end up in landfill by re-using, re-purposing or recycling pre-loved clothing.

"Ensuring that we continue to have a positive impact on our planet is the driving force behind the decisions we make along each step of our sustainability journey as a business... and this is just the beginning," she said.

The denim collected by Decjuba and posted by its customers is sent to Upparel for assessment about whether it can be re-used, re-purposed or recycled.

Upparel either passes wearable pieces onto charities (reuse), gives the denim to brands for upcycling into new clothes (repurpose) or shreds and spins the garments with new fibres for mattresses, pet beds and home insulation (recycled).
