French-born sporting retailer Decathlon has just launched on Uber Eats in Australia, becoming the platform’s first sport retail partner in the country.
The brand will sell more than 20,000 sports, fitness and outdoor products at in=store prices on Uber Eats, which can be delivered in under 60 minutes.
The service will be available from all six Decathlon stores in Sydney and Melbourne.
According to Decathlon, the launch is already showing strong early momentum. To mark the rollout, the sporting retailer will offer Uber Eats customers $10 off when they spend $50 or more, for a limited time.
Chief executive Danny Sekulich said the retailer’s stores remain an important part of the Decathlon experience, but added that convenience matters just as much.
“There are moments when customers need gear quickly,” Sekulich said.
“We’re already seeing interesting trends in how customers are using the service, from late-night tent orders delivered ahead of a weekend camping trip, to last minute sneaker purchases. It shows the role on-demand delivery can play in helping people stay active and get what they need, when they need it.”
Uber Eats APAC regional GM of retail, Lucas Groeneveld, agreed with Sekulich’s point around convenience. He said that waiting days for needed products, like certain camping gear before a weekend trip, isn’t an option.
“We're making it possible for Australians to shop Decathlon's quality range at in-store prices and have it delivered in under 60 minutes, giving customers another fast, convenient way to get what they need, when they need it."
This move by Decathlon follows robust sales growth in Australia across key products during the recent global sporting moments.
This includes a 50 per cent spike in soccer and jerseys during the World Cup period, and an 86 per cent jump in road cycling sales since the Tour de France began in early July.
Meanwhile, racquet sports sales have grown by 24.7 per cent since June 1, aligning with Wimbledon, while Decathlon running gear sales grew by 65 per cent after Eliud Kipchoge’s epic Marathon run.
