Could one of the most powerful figures in Australian fashion retail create a plot twist in the David Jones takeover?

David Jones has issued an announcement revealing SL Nominees has 3.5 million shares in the group, or an 0.65 per cent stake in the department store.

The revelation was unearthed during a regular review of its share register.

The plot twist?

Premier Investments head Solomon Lew is the director of SL Nominees.

Premier Investments operates Just Group, home to brands such as Dotti, Peter Alexander, Portmans and Just Jeans.

Lew is also a minority shareholder in Country Road, which is controlled by the same company seeking to takeover David Jones.

David Jones is currently fielding a $2.2 billion takeover bid from South-African based Woolworths.
