Department store David Jones is preparing to unveil its 2026 Christmas window display at its Elizabeth Street, Sydney Flagship later this month.

For Christmas 2026, David Jones has tapped Disney to help create a Winnie-the-Pooh-themed display to mark 100 years since the publication of A.A. Milne’s original book on the character.

The windows will be inspired by Winnie the Pooh: A Tree for Christmas, a story following Pooh and his friends as they search for the perfect Christmas tree in the Hundred Acre Wood.

This comes after public backlash during Christmas 2025 when the retailer promoted its upgraded loyalty program instead in the lead-up to the big day.

The return of the David Jones Christmas Windows at the Elizabeth Street store also comes ahead of the landmark building's centenary in 2027.

David Jones chief retail officer Kate Bergin said the Christmas window display remains a treasured festive tradition for many Sydneysiders.

"We're delighted to collaborate with Disney to celebrate Winnie the Pooh and 100 years since the publication of A.A. Milne's original book,” Bergin said. “The stories of Pooh have captivated readers around the world through their enduring themes of friendship, kindness and imagination, values that resonate strongly during the festive season.”

Bergin also spotlighted the 2027 centenary of the Elizabeth Street building.

“Bringing the Christmas Windows to life in the lead-up to this milestone makes the occasion even more meaningful,” she said.

"We look forward to welcoming families, visitors and tourists to Sydney later this month as we officially unveil this year's Christmas Windows and begin the festive season at David Jones."

The unveiling will occur on October 22, which will mark the official start of Christmas at David Jones. This includes the reopening of Santa's Workshop and the arrival of Santa.

Disney Consumer Products AU/NZ executive director Pallavi Gaur welcomed the collaboration with David Jones.

“As we celebrate 100 years of Winnie the Pooh, it’s wonderful to reflect on why this much-loved character and friends continue to hold such a special place in the hearts of generations,” Gaur said. “The story is a timeless celebration of friendship, kindness, and imagination.

“We’re delighted to collaborate with David Jones to bring the magic and wonder of the Hundred Acre Wood to life this festive season across the store, creating special ways for families and fans to share in the joy and nostalgia of Winnie the Pooh.”

The upcoming reveal also follows recent industry concerns around David Jones following issues with supplier payments earlier this year and recent reports of major brands reducing their presence across the department store fleet.
