Department store David Jones has introduced over 40 new international and Australian designers across womenswear, menswear, footwear and accessories on the cusp of the Autumn/Winter 2026 season.

New womenswear additions include global players such as Jacquemus, Maison Margiela, Nour Hammour and Damson Madder, alongside Australian and New Zealand labels such as St. Agni, Courtney Zheng, Harris Tapper and Maggie Marilyn.

The accessories and footwear space expands with Givenchy, Versace, Demellier, Aquazzura and Alaïa, while Kim Kardashian’s Skims deepening its presence at David Jones with the arrival of its swimwear ranges.

In menswear, brands such as Charles Tyrwhitt, Jac + Jack, Timberland, and S.Kidman – a brand launched by mining magnate Gina Rinehart – join the assortment, alongside the continued expansion of M&S across both womenswear and menswear.

This adds to over 800 brands stocked at the department store, through stores and/or online.

David Jones chief commercial officer Erica Berchtold said this boost in its fashion ranges indicates the retailer’s ongoing investment in its total offering.

“As Australia’s home of fashion, we are proud to champion local design while continuing to bring the world’s most relevant brands to our customers,” Berchtold said.

“Each new addition has been carefully selected to expand the way our customers discover and shop, balancing modern luxury with versatility and longevity. As we continue to refine and grow our brand portfolio, our focus remains on building a world-class destination that inspires confidence, celebrates individuality and reflects the way Australians want to dress today.”

This announcement comes amid growing concerns globally over the department store model, following collapses by prominent retailers globally such as Saks, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf in the United States early this year, Smith & Caughey’s in New Zealand last year, and the closing of all stores by Debenhams in the United Kingdom.

David Jones and its competitor Myer in Australia and New Zealand have been diversifying into different income streams in recent years, with David Jones scaling a retail media arm called Amplify, while Myer taps into B2B loyalty deals and a new marketplace offering.

David Jones has also been reworking some of its store locations, and updated its online platform and its mobile app.

A recent opinion piece by Inside Retail this week has also reignited speculations of a merger deal between David Jones and Myer, with no clear evidence that active talks are happening. The two department stores did attempt a deal over a decade ago in 2014, which eventually fell through.

More recently, Myer did strike a merger deal with Premier Investments to snap up its five apparel brands, Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E, Dotti and Portmans.

Myer, as a group, is publicly listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, while David Jones is owned by Anchorage Capital Partners.
