Cue Clothing Co. executive director Justin Levis contends that a ring-fenced approach to lockdowns in the future could be a more efficient way to manage COVID restrictions.
With NSW’s extended lockdown wiping up to $1.5 billion from retail trade each week, Levis told Ragtrader that a localised lockdown could be the solution to outbreaks in the future.
"I’ve always been a proponent of a short, sharp lockdown and to ring-fence where the virus is," he said.
"I’m not the government and I’m not privy to all their information, but I would ring-fence it very quickly.
"Anybody that has visited that area could go into immediate lockdown, until told otherwise," he suggested.
Levis’ opinion comes as the business grapples with a disrupted manufacturing base, closed stores and a significant reduction in sales.
"NSW is usually 30% of my business both online and in-store, and that retail business is pretty much gone, it's pretty much zero," he said.
"What happened was that NSW was tracking at 40% of online sales, but that by no means can cover what I've lost at the stores," Levis said.
