Collapsed department store Harris Scarfe is hoping to leverage its sister company's database.

Greenlit Brands, former operator of Debenhams and Harris Scarfe in Australia, sold its merchandise business to Allegro Funds last year.

Now Harris Scarfe is hoping to tap into a potential customer crossover.

In an email to customers, Debenhams advised followers to give the embattled department store a chance.

"We've recently said Ta-Ta to our Debenhams St Collins Lane store, Melbourne," the email read, confirming the closure of its only Australian site this year.

"But it doesn't have to be the end.

"We'd love to stay in contact with you, sharing designer brands at great prices via our sister store at Harris Scarfe.

"So, we've added you to our Harris Scarfe emails to keep you in the loop on all things him, her and home."

It comes as Harris Scarfe shutters 21 stores across the country, with receivers attempting to steady the business for a potential sale.

Some 44 of Harris Scarfe’s stores will continue to trade, with 1,380 staff retained.
