Cotton On has used social media to reach a $1 million target.
The retailer, in partnership with charity arm Cotton On Foundation, reached the target as part of its I Give A Brick campaign.
The campaign will see a new school built in Nubbunga, Southern Uganda.
The global initiative asked people to upload a picture to social media holding a #IGIVEABRICK sign, using the hashtag, tagging @CottonOn and nominating friends to do the same.
Each time the hash tag was shared publically and Cotton On Foundation product was purchased during November and December, money went directly towards building the school.
The building of the school will commence later this week and completion is scheduled for July 2015.
The school will include 10 classrooms, two offices for head teacher and deputy head teacher, a staff room, teacher’s housing for five staff, kitchen, toilet facilities, playing field, vegetable garden, access to clean water, two meals a day for all students and agricultural areas to promote sustainability.
Australian celebrities also supported the campaign, with Cody Simpson, comedians Hamish and Andy, AFL players Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel, Fashion blogger Nadia Bartel, actor Pia Miller and model Laura Csortan posting the #IGIVEABRICK initiative on their social pages and encouraging others to do the same.
The Cotton On Foundation has been partnering with Southern Ugandan communities since 2007 with a mission to create 20,000 educational places in Uganda by 2020.
