Cooper St dodges a bullet

Australian womenswear label Cooper St has dodged a bullet following the announcement that US retailer Scoop NYC will shutter its stores.

Following its acquisition by manufacturing and production company Hotsprings, Cooper St was set to launch into Scoop stores in September.

Hotsprings head of strategy Alex Jackson said that the timing has been fortunate for the business.

“We were just about to commit to production, so luckily Cooper St has been left financially unscathed."

Jackson said that a US agent related to the business flagged the current landscape “an interesting time for retail in the US.”

Jackson confirmed that Cooper St will surge on with its US expansion, being stocked in department store Nordstrom, Dash and other independent boutiques.

Jackson said that the company is looking to open standalone Cooper St stores in Australian capital cities. Cooper St will also roll out an enhanced ecommerce platform from July.
