Those looking to sharpen their skills and knowledge on sustainable fashion will soon be able to access educational resources following the launch of 'The Wardrobe Crisis Academy.'

Launched by The Wardrobe Crisis podcast host Clare Press, sustainable materials company Arch & Hook and the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), the six-week course has been designed to open up sustainable fashion education to a wider audience.

'Sustainable Fashion 101' will deliver a foundational knowledge of the issues driving sustainable and ethical fashion today, and will be made available to AFC members for 100% discount through 2021.

Available online and accessible globally, the course will tackle big themes: workers’ rights, fashion’s relationship with nature, materials, waste and the circular economy and will provide students with tools to take positive action.

Press will take on the role of instructor and will deliver the content through an engaging, interactive, mixed-media format which will include videos, podcasts, workshops and even meditations.

"We’re different to what’s already there," Press said of the course.

"These courses demystify the science, data and complexities of big issues like climate and social justice.

"They ‘speak fashion’ - so they look gorgeous.

"And they give you access - we’ve got some awesome internationally recognised teachers and experts on board," she said.

Featured speakers include; Tom Szaky, founder of TerraCycle; Claire Bergkamp, COO of Textile Exchange; academics Timo Rissanen and Kirsten Lee; and, Ganni CEO Nicolaj Reffstrup.

AFC CEO Leila Naja Hibri added that the course caters to the demands of the industry for more knowledge on sustainable fashion.

"We are thrilled with this collaboration.

"Clare’s international renown and subject matter expertise combined with Arch & Hook’s commitment to sustainable innovation and design makes an ideal partnership for the AFC’s vision of creating a re-shaped industry that is world-leading in purposeful innovation, mindful creativity and human-centricity.

"Sustainable Fashion 101 is exactly what our industry has been asking for: a clear and fun way to learn about sustainability in fashion and beyond," she said.

Week 1 of Sustainable Fashion 101 starts Thursday May 20, with new material dropping each week for six weeks.

After that, those enrolled may access the content any time.

Three further courses, led by different instructors, are also set to land by the end of the year.
