Luxury label Christian Louboutin is set to launch its fall/winter range in collaboration with First Nations artist and Gumbaynggirr Bundjalung man Otis Hope Carey.
The global brand unveiled the collection at a VIP event in Sydney this week, which featured the original seven artworks by Otis Hope Carey for Christian Louboutin, alongside a matching accessories collection of shoes, bags and hats that were inspired by the collection.
Event guests – which included Ragtrader – were invited to an ‘In-Conversation’ with Carey where he gave guests an insight into the creativity design process and inspiration behind his custom original artworks for Christian Louboutin.
Through collaboration with the First Nations artist, whose home is on the eastern coast of Australia, Christian Louboutin himself and Carey worked together for over a year to design the new range.
“I know that Christian loves really bright, bold designs, and that was my first train of thought to create some works that were bold and loud, but also soft and it really gave the collaboration its own identity,” Carey said at the event.
“I wanted to keep in mind the aesthetic of Christian Louboutin but also bring in something new and fresh that might not have been used before and push the boundaries.”
Carey added that collaborations like this, with a global luxury label, are important milestones for First Nations people in Australia as a way to share culture.
“It’s a great way for people to learn about our culture and how we connect to all the elements around us.”
The event was attended by a range of Australian personalities, including actress Miah Madden, and models Nathan McGuire and Elle Ferguson. Recently appointed managing director of Christian Louboutin’s Japan and Oceania markets, Mika Bailey, also attended the event.
The Christian Louboutin Fall-Winter 2025 collection will be available in Christian Louboutin boutiques and online from May 15. The luxury brand manages five boutiques across Australia, alongside spaces at two David Jones stores.
