It has been a tough week for Chinese manufacturers.

The China Meteorological Administration has issued a yellow alert for Typhoon Manghkut, warning it could put the country to "a severe test".

The super typhoon hit southern China on Sunday, killing two people after causing 64 deaths and landslides in the Philippines.

More than 2.4 million people had been evacuated in southern China’s manufacturing province of Guangdong.

The province has already set up 3777 shelters in preparation for the devastating typhoon.

Langsey Company's Li Zhang said southern China is critical to fashion manufacturers, including Australian retailers.

"Why are most of the [production] places in Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces? These three provinces are where 99% of the textile and apparel factories are located in China.

"Guangdong Province has the strength of large production capacity and fast response."

The news comes as China threatens countermeasures against US President Donald Trump's threat of further tarrifs, on top of the $200 billion set to take affect.

The foreign ministry has vowed to retaliate if the US increases trade penalties by a further US$267 billion, as Trump told reporters on Air Force One recently.
