Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping centre – managed by Vicinity Centres – has just begun development works to overhaul its luxury retail precinct, focusing on upgrading current luxury partners to flagship size.
The transformation will be undertaken in stages, buoyed by the expansion of global luxury powerhouses Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Dior, and Fendi. On completion, these reimagined maisons will occupy close to 3,000 square metres at Chadstone, providing a collective increase of approximately 80 per cent.
The next phase of Chadstone’s luxury precinct will allow for flagship experiences. Further expansions and additional new boutiques will follow, with further openings planned from mid-2027.
Amid the construction, many brands will maintain their presence in the centre within temporary boutiques.
Chadstone houses a comprehensive line-up of 40 luxury designer brands. Over the past five years, Chadstone’s luxury sales have reportedly grown significantly, making up an additional 5 per cent of Chadstone’s annual turnover, to represent greater than 25 per cent of sales despite occupying just over 5 per cent of the centre’s total GLA.
"For more than 66 years, Chadstone has set the benchmark for world-class retail experiences, and this investment reinforces our position as Australia's premier luxury destination while ensuring we continue to meet and exceed the expectations of both customers and our international luxury brand partners,” Chadstone centre manager Martine Criswick said.
“As Melbourne's unofficial second city and a globally recognised retail precinct, we're proud to be creating a luxury environment that supports the growth ambitions of our retailers and further strengthens Chadstone's reputation as a destination that plays in a league of its own.”
The reconfiguration will require the temporary closure of Chadstone’s ‘Visitor Lounge’ and nearby amenities. During the development works, Chadstone’s Tourist Shuttle, which operates daily services between Chadstone and Melbourne’s CBD, will move to a temporary pick-up and drop-off zone near the Waterman Business Centre, close to the Tiffany & Co. entrance.
A new Tourist Service Desk is now open opposite Tiffany & Co. on Ground Level.
The phased redevelopment of the luxury precinct has been strategically staged to minimise disruption to Chadstone’s retailers and visitors, with most luxury retailers operating from temporary sites throughout the festive season. The first of the refurbishments is due for completion in December 2026.
Chadstone's luxury overhaul follows the recent $625 million redevelopment of Chatswood Chase by parent company Vicinity Centres.
