The National Gallery of Victoria’s key 2026 exhibition, CARTIER, has reportedly garnered more than 200,000 visitors since it opened in Melbourne in June this year. October 4
Created by London’s Victoria & Albert Museum in partnership with the NGV, and in collaboration with Maison Cartier, the exhibition features nearly 400 jewels, timepieces and precious objects owned and worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Rihanna, Andy Warhol, Princess Margaret and The Duchess of Windsor and other key royals globally.
Exclusive to Melbourne, CARTIER is the largest exhibition on the global jewellery house ever staged in Australia.
“These incredible attendance figures demonstrate the wide appeal of contemporary art exhibitions, and showcases why NGV is Australia’s most visited gallery,” Victorian Minister for Creative Industries Vicki Ward said.
The numbers also appear to show Cartier’s appeal in the Australian market. The maison operates seven standalone stores in Australia, and sells through David Jones. This is set to grow with another store as Cartier plans to open in the new luxury space at Chatswood Chase in North Sydney.
Minister for Major Events Anthony Carbines added that he and his team are proud to back events like the Cartier Exhibition. “This is just one part of our major events calendar, attracting visitors from around the globe and supporting almost 17,000 Victorian jobs,” Carbines said.
The Cartier exhibition is set to wrap up on October 4.
