Italian luxury menswear brand Canali has expanded its Australian retail footprint into Melbourne, opening a new boutique at 411 Collins Street.
The boutique is being brought to Australia by Mitchel Ogilvie, an Australian menswear brand founded in Brisbane over 40 years ago.
This will add to over 190 Canali boutique stores globally, with one of these already located in Sydney CBD on Elizabeth Street.
Canali president and CEO Stefano Canali said Australia has long been an important market for the brand, and that the opening of its first Melbourne boutique marks an exciting new chapter.
“Together with Mitchell Ogilvie, with whom we share a longstanding relationship and a deep appreciation for quality and craftsmanship, we are proud to bring to Melbourne the values that have defined Canali since 1934: Pursue of excellence, Italian sartorial mastery and a contemporary expression of elegance rooted in our heritage.”
The launch represents a significant investment from Mitchell Ogilvie, covering the store shopfit, initial stock holdings, and the recruitment and training of an experienced local team.
Mitchell Ogilvie, the founder of his eponymous retail business, said Melbourne makes perfect sense for the Canali brand.
“The city’s appreciation for craftsmanship, understated luxury and enduring style aligns seamlessly with the brand, supported by a sophisticated retail landscape and discerning clientele,” Ogilvie said.
The Melbourne boutique spans more than 160 square metres of retail space, anchored by a made-to-measure VIP room. The retail floor is finished throughout in marble, with six-metre ceilings, which transition to three metres in the made-to-measure room.
Canali’s new store will house the brand’s full offering, including made-to-measure suits to ready-to-wear tailoring, formalwear, premium sportswear, outerwear and accessories.
According to the brand, Mitchell Ogilvie will continue with twice-yearly buying trips to Milan to personally select each season’s collection.
