Paris-based cult director Justin Wu has arrived in Australia for the first time and will create one of his iconic films to celebrate the Sydney fashion scene as part of a collaboration between Russh magazine and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA).

Wu, who is well-known for his photography and film work featuring models lip-syncing to various tunes, has previously worked with Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Jay-Z, Models.com, and V Magazine among others.

The collaboration with Russh magazine and MBFWA will see the Wu produce a film celebrating Sydney, fashion week and the nation's home-grown models.

Wu’s film will launch early July to build brand awareness around the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney, which will run this year from August 21 to 25, supporting MBFWA showcasing designers as their spring/summer collections land in-store.

IMG Fashion global production director Jarrad Clark said the film will serve to further increase the global presence of the fashion event and Australian designers.

“We’re excited Justin will put Sydney, the MBFWA stable of designers, and our amazing pool of model talent on the global radar and showcase the diversity and vibrancy of the Australian fashion scene,” he said.

Wu added that the partnership is set to yield some impressive results.

“I am very excited to see and experience MBFWA first-hand and be able to turn it into one of my iconic films,” he said.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be invited to collaborate with Russh and IMG Fashion and to work with this incredible team. When I was approached about the project I was instantly intrigued and delighted. This will be bigger than the other films I’ve done before.”
