Australian luxury fashion house Camilla and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City have united for a first-of-its-kind fashion collaboration.
Launching April 8 next month, the pair will roll out a capsule collection that spans women’s wear, men’s wear, and accessories inspired by works of art in The Met’s collection of 2 million artefacts that are reimagined with the brand’s beloved signature aesthetic.
The range features six prints designed by founder and creative director Camilla Franks and her team. Among the styles are hand-beaded and embroidered coats, flowing evening gowns, tailored suits, statement separates and tasselled silk scarves.
“Not all art was meant to stand still. It was meant to move: to live, to dance, to be worn,” Franks said. “This collection honours art as a living, breathing thing. These pieces are wild and soulful, made to be adored, admired, and loved into oblivion. This is history with a heartbeat, dressed for a new era.”
The Met and Camilla marked the launch at a special event in Sydney this week in Walsh Bay, with nearly all guests asked to wear all black cocktail attire – except for 20 attendees who wore pieces from the Camilla.
The space included a disco ball, a sculptural floral installation, as well as music from DJ Mikkapedia and live strings from ENsemble Apex, and a performance by Melbourne artist Jupita.
The all-black culinary theme included mini black burgers, caviar cones, and goat’s cheese creations, paired with gin martinis and champagne.
“Our style is our love letter to the world: to joy, to colour, to unbridled creativity,” Franks said. “When imagination meets craftsmanship, that’s where the magic happens. That’s when style becomes self-expression.
“This collection pays homage to the museum’s grandeur while bringing both its spirit and some of its most illustrious treasures to life in a way that’s joyful, bold, and utterly rich.”
The Met x Camilla collection will be available in select Camilla boutiques and wholesale partners, as well as online. Dresses range from $600 up to $3,500, with a limited number of pinnacle designs priced up to $6,000.
