Commonwealth Games Australia has confirmed that Sylvia P Teamwear, a Brisbane-based sportswear manufacturer, will be the Official Supplier of gymnastics teamwear for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

This comes amid growing discussions calling for national uniforms to be made in Australia, including for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, alongside a national push to revive local manufacturing.

Founded in 1994, Sylvia P Teamwear designs and produces all its garments at its Brisbane-based factory. Last year, the brand upgraded its local factory to a new 3,000 square metre facility, more than four times its original size of just 500 square metres in 2018.

Sylvia P managing director Thomas Pichler told Ragtrader last year that this expansion came after scaling its US market since 2018, now contributing 80 per cent to the brand’s total yearly revenue.

According to Sylvia P, the partnership with Commonwealth Games Australia will deliver bespoke competition and training apparel to Australian Team gymnasts as  they prepare to compete on the international stage.

Chef de Mission Petria Thomas OAM OLY said she and the team are proud to partner with the Brisbane business.

“Having an Australian-designed and manufactured uniform supplier is incredibly important to us, and Sylvia P Teamwear’s deep connection to gymnastics makes them an ideal fit for our athletes.”

Pichler noted the honour of partnering with Commonwealth Games Australia.

“Providing Australian athletes with uniforms that are designed and manufactured locally is something we take great pride in, and supporting the Australian Team on the Commonwealth Games stage is an honour for our brand,” Pichler said. “For us, gymnastics is about empowering athletes with the confidence and support they need to shine when representing Australia.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with Commonwealth Games Australia and to support our athletes with competition uniforms that reflect the strength, pride and identity of our national team.”

The Australian Fashion Council (AFC) applauded Sylvia P on scoring this deal, adding this comes just ahead of its National Manufacturing Strategy launch which expected to go live this month.

"Sylvia P has been part of the AFC community for years, and seeing them named as the Official Supplier of the Australian Gymnastics teamwear for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games is a proud moment for our whole industry," AFC executive chair Marianne Perkovic said. "This is an incredible Australian-made story that we at the AFC want to see more often.

"As we near the launch of the National Manufacturing Strategy for Australian Fashion & Textiles, procurement opportunities like this demonstrate the commercial and competitive strength of our domestic manufacturing sector, and the significant opportunity to support Australia jobs and local businesses.”

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
