Brisbane label Bonita Collective is aiming to raise more than $15,000 for Mater Chicks In Pink through the upcoming launch of its new ‘Sheroes’ collection.
The womenswear label confirmed that 100% of proceeds from every sale in this collection will be donated.
Mater Chicks In Pink is a charity organisation providing support and services to women suffering from breast cancer. It also funds vital research into the causes and treatment.
Bonita Collective director and designer Stephanie Rooke said the collection will be launched at a garden party in Brisbane this weekend, where it will then go live online on Tuesday, October 4.
“We're hoping that given October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're able to sell through as much of the collection as possible,” Rooke said. “But if not, we will certainly let it run for as long as possible to maximise sales.”
Rooke said that as they are a small business, they wanted to keep the print of the new collection as limited-edition, “so we have not produced at a mass level.”
“If we see that the collection resonates, we'll be over the moon and look to develop and extend it further.
For Rooke, the launch of this collection and the cause it's going towards hits close to home.
“Now that Mum has come out the other side of her treatment, and I've had time to reflect, one thing that jumped out at me was the rallying spirit that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
“Not only do people come from everywhere to shower those impacted with love and support, but patients undergoing treatment muster a superhuman amount of bravery, resilience and grace.
“In my Mum's case, she went to the frontline like a glittering, spangled warrior, and it was a powerful experience to witness.
“We wanted to harness that victory of spirit and strength with our collection and give all those women (and families) affected something uplifting and beautiful to represent their journey.”
The collection includes a silk shirt, headscarf and soft cotton sleepwear. They are designed to be worn during treatment, in recovery from, or in support of women battling breast cancer.
“Given how close to home it's hit, the prevalence of breast cancer amongst females and the fact that Bonita has such a strong female following, breast cancer will always be at the top of our list for fundraising and advocating.
“However, we are a brand with a strong social and charitable compass, so we want to ensure all the work we do creates good in a number of ways.”
