Textile recycler BlockTexx has teamed up with Melbourne-born, global accessory and trim developer INGWE to showcase a range of pre-production fashion items at an industry event in Paris this week.
The pair displayed a range of buttons, coat hangers, zippers and fabrics made from BlockTexx’s PolyTexx material, created from 100 per cent. post-consumer recycled polyester fibre.
Through their partnership, BlockTexx and INGWE aim to support the transition to 100 per cent recyclable fashion supply chains through high quality, validated recycled materials.
According to the pair the local and global textile industry’s shift to better design choices has largely been centred on the main fabrics, linings, dyes and components used to construct them. Beyond this focus, threads, fusing, trims and finishes of that garment are rarely considered, but they point out that the pathway to 100 per cent recyclable garments must include these finishing components.
They add that traditional materials used in trims and components currently have no end-of-life value as they are not created with recycling in mind.
“Using our PolyTexx rPET, our manufacturing partners have developed a range of trims and components designed specifically for the textile industry,” BlockTexx designer innovation manager Tonia Bastian said.
“These trims are made from 100 per cent post-consumer recycled textiles. They demonstrate true circular design in action.”
INGWE CEO Andrew Holland said the focus here is to promote sustainable products as the first choice.
“We have 30 years of expertise working with clothing manufacturers and manufacturing companies,” Holland said. “It’s an exciting time to accelerate recycled materials into the fashion and textile supply chains, especially products made from recovered textiles.”
