Best & Less has been recognised as a finalist in the 2021 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards.

The retailer is a finalist in the Industry Sector Awards category alongside fellow apparel retailer Lululemon.

Finalists in this sector are assessed based on annual reporting scores and performance against the Packaging Sustainability Framework criteria.

Best & Less has been recognised for its actions and reporting on its sustainability commitments across areas such as emissions, waste, water management, resource use and packaging components and processes.

Best & Less' initiatives in these areas include transitioning to more sustainable packaging formats, including FSC certified paper swing-tags, recycled polybags and removing all additional packaging and tags on garments.

The retailer is also in the process of rolling out 100% recyclable enviro-hangers to its stores across Australia.

Additionally, Best & Less introduced a new range of activewear (pictured) made from 100% recycled PET plastic bottles (Repreve fabric) and raised consumer awareness over the sustainability of its packaging by running a campaign and incorporating FSC and recycled content claims on-pack.

However, that's not all the retailer has done.

"[We] demonstrated supply chain influence that is beyond best practice, by running seasonal roadshows and supplier workshops to address new packaging initiatives and packaging requirements outlined within the supplier manual," Best & Less said in a statement.

"These sustainability efforts have also led us to be recognised as a bronze Sustainability Advantage Partner for our leadership and commitment to sustainability, planning and management systems, engagement with stakeholders for sustainable outcomes and evidence of achievements.

"And, we are on track to reach silver status this side of the New Year," the retailer said.

Best & Less operates 185 bricks-and-mortar stores across Australia and sells men's, women's, baby and children's apparel.

The APCO Awards will take place virtually on November 18.
