Best and Less has donated $150,000 to domestic violence charity Next Steps Australia, to support survivors of domestic and family violence across Australia.
The donation will support Next Steps Australia to provide one Manchester starter pack to one woman and one child each day of the year, helping them to start a new life after fleeing a violent situation.
According to the Australian Institute for Health and Welfare, one in six women in Australia had experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or previous cohabiting partner.
Additionally, 61% of women affected by family violence had children in their care, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates.
Next Steps Australia chair Bernadette Blair said Best and Less' support will impact more than 700 survivors.
"We are thrilled and delighted with the results and extend our thanks to the Best and Less staff and community.
"Best and Less will be supporting 730 survivors of domestic violence around Australia.
"The packs will be distributed to selected refuges in each state and territory in Australia," she said.
Recognising that many domestic violence survivors are forced to flee violent situations with few possessions and no household items, Next Steps Australia's Manchester packs provide basic items including sheets, quilts, pillows and towels.
"We were so moved by the work that Next Steps Australia does, and thankful to be a part of their mission," Best and Less head of marketing Janine Van Deventer said.
"The donations of the starter packs demonstrate to these vulnerable members of our community that they are valued and cared for and safe.
"We want to help these families on their next steps to an independent life, feeling valued and confident again as they deserve.
"Sleeping in new Manchester to have a good night’s rest is all part of that.
"We look forward to contributing more in this area in the future," she said.
Alongside its support of Next Steps Australia, Best and Less has continued its support of fellow charities Good360 and Thread Together, donating more than 8000 items to the charities combined.
Best and Less donated $149,182 to Next Steps Australia.
