Bassike has opened a new flagship store in a former NAB branch in the upper northern beaches suburb of Avalon.

After opening its first flagship store in Avalon more than a decade ago, Bassike has reimagined its presence in the suburb, moving to larger 170qm boutique.

Designed by long-time Bassike architect Kelvin Ho, the store features clean lines, high ceilings and a north-facing facade.

"It’s quite nostalgic to collaborate with Kelvin from Akin Atelier, who worked with us on our very first Bassike store," Bassike co-founder and creative director Deborah Sams said.

"It feels like a natural evolution for the brand to move into a new space," she said.

Located in what's known to locals as a unique 1970s landmark, the store draws inspiration from an elegant beach house and  features a Bassike palette of travertine, timber, linen and sisal, further accented with plants, artworks, rugs and custom furniture.

Speaking on the store, architect Kelvin Ho said that the store pays homage to the brand's history.

"Avalon holds such importance to Bassike – it’s the brand’s birthplace, the location for the first Bassike store, Deb’s hometown and is a huge part of Bassike’s DNA – this history makes the Bassike Avalon store a great project to work on.

"The physicality of the new location and its architectural elements lend an almost Australian modernist feeling to the space, which naturally aligns with the Bassike aesthetic.

"The site itself brought a really positive impact to our design process and feels as honest and true to brand as the very first store," he said.

Bassike co-founder and director of supply chain and sustainability Mary Lou Ryan added that the business is opening the doors to a new chapter in its story.

"While it may be the end of an era closing our original flagship after 13 years, we are excited to deliver a complete retail experience and present the full Bassike collection in a curated, larger space," she said.

The new Avalon store brings the brand's store count to eight, with the store joining other New South Wales locations at Double Bay, Mosman, Paddington and The Strand Arcade.
