Australian fashion brand Bassike has refreshed its store at the Sydney Strand Arcade.
The Strand Arcade is home to premium and luxury brands, including Rebecca Vallance, Viktoria & Woods, Manning Cartel and Jac + Jack.
Bassike’s revised store in Sydney was redesigned by Kelvin Ho, founding director of Akin Atelier and a long-term collaborator of the brand.
The store is inspired by Italian mid-century modernism, with a concept similar to a jewellery box. This includes a handcrafted casing where clothes are presented like that of jewellery.
Flooring includes a small-format Palladiano Romanesque crazy-pave tiling.
“The design was approached with the concept of framing – treating the store design not as a backdrop, but as a vessel – a crafted box that gives clarity to what it holds,” Ho said.
“The idea of the jewellery box was important, not for its ornament but for its discipline; a defined casing that elevates the object inside.”
Bassike was founded in 2006 by Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan. Ryan has since stepped away from the brand, with Sams remaining on as director.
The brand manages nine stores across Australia, including six in New South Wales, two in Victoria and one in Queensland.
