Australian start-up label Kusaga Athletic has reached its crowdfunding target to launch 'The Greenest T-Shirt on the Planet'.

The eco-friendly tshirt will be made from 100% plant based and sustainable fabric Ecolite and uses less than 1% of the water needed to manufacture a standard cotton tshirt.

Kusaga Athletic co-founder Graham Ross believes that the project was launched in order to take responsibility for environmental issues caused by the garment industry.

“We all know climate change is a big problem, so big it’s hard to know what one person can do to make a difference.”

“Not many people realise it can take 3,000 litres of water to make a single cotton t-shirt. With a staggering two billion t-shirts sold every year worldwide we figured it was a pretty good place to start to help mitigate climate change.

We think given the choice between similar products, people will choose the option that’s better for the environment.”

The label has raised over $15,000 to launch the t-shirt into the market.

At this stage no details regarding price points or distribution have been confirmed.
