Online fashion retailer Asos' spectacular run in the Australian market has experienced a slow down.

Asos reported a 38 per cent rise in sales to 335.7 million pounds (AUD 616.25 million) for the four months to December 31.

UK sales grew 37 per cent with international sales up 38 per cent, led by by strong sales growth in Europe of 69 per cent.

However growth in Rest of World sales, including Australia and China, slowed to 19 per cent from 26 per cent in the previous period.

Chief executive Nick Robertson attributed the decline to performance in the Australian market, according to Reuters.

He said the result was influenced by local currency.

"On a like-for-like basis because of the Australian dollar we are about 15 per cent more expensive than we were this time last year," Robertson told Reuters.

Rest of World sales accounted for around 30 per cent of total sales last year.

The company is still on track to make 1 billion pounds (AUD 1.8 billion) of sales over 2013/14, one year ahead of set targets.

Asos launched a dedicated Australian site in September 2011, with the market growing to be its third largest territory after the UK and the US.
