The suburb of Haymarket has been found to be the most fashionable location in Sydney's metro region, according to research conducted by data and analytics company Defin'd.
Other key Sydney metro suburbs identified in the research included Rhodes, Chippendale, Ultimo, and the Sydney CBD.
Research also revealed that the group who identified most with keeping up with the latest seasonal trends were 'fashion forward females', which comprised of younger women under the age of 35.
This group was found to be 1.5 times more likely to keep up with new fashion trends, compared to the average Australian.
Other core consumer groups were cosmopolitan females, which are women over 30 who are budget conscious but have a well established style. They considered fashion to be important, but not the most significant aspect in their lives.
Trend setting males are considered to be men under the age of 40 who are early adopters of fashion trends who care about new fashion and know where their money is spent.
Defin’d principal Stephen Lee said businesses should be looking to similar research as a means of gaining a better understanding of consumers and their shopping patterns.
“Until now, retailers could only see their target market through a narrow lens, but businesses can now get insights into the entire Australian population to identify their markets at a household level and how best to reach them."
