Moving annual total (MAT) sales in apparel across Stockland’s Town Centres have fallen by 0.5 per cent in the FY25 year to March 31, 2025.
Stockland manages 16 town centres across Australia, all generating around $4.8 billion in sales per year. Its largest town centre is in Green Hills near the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, which houses 32 stores in the fashion and beauty category, including Supre, H&M, Lorna Jane, and TK Maxx.
MAT sales in the apparel category hit $380 million in the FY25 year to March 31. Despite the overall sales slip in the category, third quarter sales lifted by 2 per cent compared to Q3 in FY24.
The apparel category is the only one to report a fall in year-to-date sales. Food catering MAT sales lifted by 4.4 per cent to $341 million, with food retail up 5.8 per cent to $125 million.
Homewares also recorded a lift of 5 per cent to $44 million, with retail services (hairdressers, travel agents and the like) lifting 3.7 per cent to $246 million.
Total MAT sales across the town centres lifted by 2.6 per cent to $4.87 billion in the FY25 year to March 31, with supermarkets leading the way with a 3.4 per cent lift. Department stores and discount department stores lifted by 2.9 per cent, with mini majors – think Reject Shop or Rebel Sport – also lifting 2.9 per cent.
Speciality shops lifted by just 1.5 per cent.
Stockland noted that its resilient sales are underpinned by around 70 per cent exposure to essentials-based categories.
Discretionary categories sales are also reportedly showing signs of stabilisation.
