The Australian website of outdoor clothing retailer Patagonia has been hacked.

ABC News reports that 600 customer bank details could have been stolen after hackers breached the site.

It is understood customers who purchased from the site between August 4 and September 12 could be at risk.

Up to 12,500 additional customers may have personal details such as names and mailing addresses compromised, ABC News reports.

Patagonia offered affected customers a year of free identity protection and credit monitoring services in an email after the incident.

Federal authorities have also been notified.

This is the third major hacking in recent months, with David Jones and Kmart Australia sites also compromised.
