American Apparel is set to expand globally, following its US relaunch on April 24.

The brand has partnered with delivery and payment provider Borderfree to enable iy to ship to over 200 countries including Australia.

The brand entered voluntary administration in Australia two years ago.

As part of its relaunch, the brand will launch a global marketing campaign across digital platforms with a 'back to basics' campaign focused on highlighting the 'spirit' of the company.

American Apparel was acquired by Gildan Activewear in 2017 for $US88 million with Gildan acquiring global intellectual property rights for the brand and certain manufacturing equipment.

The deal did not result in Gildan purchasing any retail store assets from American Apparel.

In a statement, a Gildan spokesperson highlighted their manufacturing network as crucial to the success of American Apparel's relaunch.

“As part of Gildan's family of brands, American Apparel now has access to one of the world's largest and most responsible manufacturing network.

“Under Gildan's ownership, American Apparel is now able to offer the same great styles at more affordable prices, reinforcing the brand's promise of quality products and commitment to being ethically made and sweatshop free.”
