Global online platform Amazon requires 1,400 seasonal workers at its fulfilment centres and Amazon Logistics sites across the country ahead of the mid-year sales season.

This includes Amazon’s annual Prime Day shopping event offering discounts exclusively for Prime members across its ranges - including clothing, homewares and toys.

To meet the expected customer demand during this time, Amazon Australia is seeking seasonal workers to help pick, pack and ship orders to customers around the country.

It comes after Amazon announced free next day delivery as part of membership in a number of cities across the country earlier this year.

Most of the jobs needing to be filled are in New South Wales at 700, followed by Victoria at 350 jobs, Queensland with 200 and Western Australia at 130.

“We have 1,400 roles to fill with motivated and enthusiastic people looking for a short-term role,” Amazon Australia HR operations director Jacqui Marker said. “We provide on-the-job training so no previous experience or formal qualifications are required, and Prime Day always promises to be an exciting time of year.”

Amazon Australia added that seasonal roles may present opportunities for permanent employment.

Other available jobs include Amazon Flex, a delivery platform similar to Uber delivery, where workers deliver packages to customers using their own vehicle.

It comes as unemployment lifted by 0.1 percentage point to 3.8 per cent in March, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Employment fell by 7,000 people while the number of unemployed rose by 21,000 people, leading to the 3.8 per cent position.
