Australian fashion designer Akira Isogawa has returned to the runway through a collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Jordan Gogos.

Isogawa has remained under the radar in recent years, with his last major event being the launch of an exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in 2018.

Isogawa confirmed the collaboration with Gogos began over email in November last year.

"I was aware of his outstanding creativity since his first show at Australian Fashion Week in 2021 and quite frankly, very excited to be invited," Isogawa said.

Gogos will collaborate with Isogawa through an advertising campaign with Glenfiddich, with the pair unveiling a textile design ahead of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week.

Isogawa said key steps in the collaboration included visiting each other's workshops and identifying how their unqiue offerings could merge.

"For example, as Jordan digitalised his artisanal textiles and printed on silks and cottons, I worked on textile manipulations on those digitally printed materials."

Gogos has utilised a new textile technique called ‘compression’, which involves the repurposing of discarded fabrics and materials from his studio to design a bespoke textile inspired by the Glenfiddich Twelve colourway.

The textile will be displayed at Iordanes Spyridon Gogos’ runway show at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week this year.
