Byron Boy-born fashion label Afends has designed a 16-piece unisex eyewear range with Australian brand Le Specs.
The range was launched this month and is made from 100% recycled materials, with seven unisex shapes featuring Afends hardware and custom artwork detailing. Colours include black, charcoal and green.
Afends co-founder and marketing director Jonathan Salfield said the partnership was a strategic choice.
“Afends' commitment to sustainability meets Le Specs' innovative eyewear designs, resulting in a collection that combines timeless fashion with a strong environmental message,” Salfield said.
“This partnership captures the best of both of our style and values, offering a glimpse into a more sustainable and fashionable future.”
Established in 2006 by Declan Wise and Jonathan Salfield, Afends emerged from a screen printing business specialising in punk and hardcore band merchandise.
Afends transitioned to working with 100% sustainable fibres in 2021, creating a range of hemp clothing. Today, Afends operates a 100-acre hemp farm in northern New South Wales, acquired in 2022.
“Like Afends, we are driven by cultivating change for a more sustainable future, so this partnership was exciting from both a design and sustainability perspective,” Le Specs creative director Hamish Tame said.
“The original artwork and finessed hardware detailing set the collab apart from anything else in the eyewear market, and I am so proud that we can present this partnership of two iconically Australian brands to the global market.”
The Afends x Le Specs eyewear collection will be sold online at both Afends and Le Specs and in Afends stores.
