The Australian Centre for Retail Studies (ACRS) is preparing for its annual Retail Thought Leadership (RTL) project series, which will kick off in Adelaide from July.
The RTL series, now in its third year, is an annual research project which aims to provide insights into key issues impacting the Australian and New Zealand retail industry. The research for the 2011 RTL project has been determined by chief executives across Australia and New Zealand, and the topic confirmed for 2011 is “The War for Talent”.
Talks will be held in sites across Australia, starting with Adelaide on July 26, before moving on to Brisbane on July 27, Melbourne on July 28, then Sydney and Auckland on August 12 and 15 respectively.
The events in Sydney and Melbourne will be opened by Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes, with a general discussion of the ACRS’ Retail Thought Leadership series and the importance of “The War for Talent” to follow.
Other topics for discussion will include what factors influence employee satisfaction, organisational commitment and what subsequently leads individuals to retail as a career, from the shopfloor to senior management.
The research also aims to develop an understanding of the issues related to:
-
Perceptions of retail and working in the industry
-
Retention and turnover
-
Succession planning and career paths
-
Progressing up the retail ladder
