The chairman of Accent Group, David Gordon, is set to retire from his role at the Australian footwear conglomerate later this year.

The board of directors confirmed the news in an update to investors, noting that Gordon will retire as non-executive director and chairman at the conclusion of this year’s annual general meeting (AGM), which will be held on November 21.

Gordon has been a member of the board for over 18 years and chairman of the board for the past 8 years. Gordon will be succeeded by Lawrence Myers as chairman of the board.

Myers was appointed to the board as a non-executive director in November 2023 and is currently the chairman of the People and Remuneration Committee.

According to the Accent Group website, Lawrence is currently an independent non-executive director of kitchenware retailer Breville Group Limited, and serves as both deputy chair and chair of Audit and Risk Committee. Lawrence is also on the board of Regal Asian Investments Limited as chair, the chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at VGI Partners Global Investments Limited, and is also on the Foundation Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Along with his board, investment advisory and accounting background, Lawrence also has consumer retail and advisory board experience, working with businesses including Bec + Bridge, Cue Clothing Group, Industrie Clothing and P.E Nation.

Accent Group CEO Daniel Agostinelli thanked Gordon on behalf of the board and management for his “exceptional contribution and devotion” to the company.

“David has been instrumental in helping the company to grow to what it is today, and more recently in securing the rights to the Sports Direct business in Australia and New Zealand,” Agostinelli said.

“His experience and measured input to the board has been invaluable and will be missed.

“We also welcome the appointment of Lawrence as chairman of the board and look forward to working with him in this position.”
