Net-A-Porter has revealed the major trends and brands driving sales on the luxury platform.

In Sydney for media showings, global buying director Elizabeth von der Goltz unveiled some stunning data insights.

Here are our top eight picks, plus a list of what Net-A-Porter is backing as the next big things.

1. Nude sandals

During New York Fashion Week, von der Goltz and five of her team wore The Row's 'bare' sandal.

"We were one of the few retailers to stand behind this style in the first season. The first drop sold out in two weeks and we’ve sold over 500 pairs to date."

She said her favorite iterations come from Rejina Pyo and ByFar.

"We have over 160 styles across over 30 brands coming in."

2. Dressing the real woman

Front runners for this wearable-but-stylish trend include Loewe, The Row and Tibi from New York.

"The new sophisticated mood at Burberry, which we have really invested in by growing the RTW buy over 300%, as well as Valentino and Givenchy," von der Goltz added.

3. Luxe Leather

This trend emerged in fall, with Net-A-Porter seeing huge success in Nanushka’s faux leather.

"We loved the different options of dresses, coats and shirting and have sold over 800 units to date," von der Goltz said.

4. Blazers

"As far as the blazer goes, we sold over 7,000 units last spring, and the focus is really on boxier, longer length shapes."

5. Long-line shorts.

von der Goltz said Net-A-Porter has grown this category by 120% with over 200 styles coming in for spring. For fall, a logo pair from Burberry completely sold out in ten days.

"One of our favorites is the cycling short and as controversial as the style is, sales have proven that our customer is buying the style."

6. Utility

This no-fuss trend includes tough suiting, cargo separates and accessories with the GG Marmount belt bag selling over 1000 units.

"We have just exclusively launch brand Orseund Iris - outside of their direct to consumer network - and almost sold out of their signature boiler suit in just two days," von der Goltz added.

7. One Piece

Last summer, Net-A-Porter saw a significant resurgence in one pieces versus bikinis. In fact, 2018 was the first time the one-piece took over its retail sales mix.

"We can thank Gucci for reintroducing the one piece on the runway last fall - and we completely sold out selling over 700 units."

8. Vacation mode

It was a summer of shells and regardless of the outfit people were wearing them with almost everything, von der Goltz said.

"We launched Tohum earlier this summer. It quickly became our top selling fashion jewelry brand and we’ve sold 800 units to date and on launch it took 4X more than our average in that category."

And the final word from von der Goltz....

We aren’t strangers to the word ‘IT’ when talking to accessories and as a business we really believe in trusting in our instincts and backing with conviction what we think is going to be the next big thing.

· Loewe’s SS19 raffia shoulder bag with the leather patch is sure to be next summer’s favorite purchase. It’s priced a little higher than last season’s at £695 but we don’t expect to see any resistance.

· ByFar: We are backing the new Brigette Sandal where we have invested in over 1,000 units. In total you will see 23 styles of Naked Sandal coming from ByFar alone.

· Chloe’s Chloe Bag we have backed with around 20 options for both Cruise and Runway totalling to around 3,000 units and making up 80% of our total Chloe Bag buy.

· Cult Gaia’s beaded bag at an amazing £150 is going to be the new Arc bag. We sold 10,000 units of the Arc!

· The new hit from Staud is called The Alice retailing at £370 - the vintage feel that feels really relevant for the season.

· The new style that was shown on the Gucci men’s runway, (but is also unisex) ‘The Virtus’ is our newest sneaker conviction. The style is offered at £615 for the classic option or add an embellishment for £1070.
