Vestiaire Collective has launched direct shipping in Australia, allowing customers to purchase directly from sellers.
The service allows shoppers to opt-out of physical quality control and authentication at check out and receive their purchases directly from the seller.
The Australian launch follows the successful rollout of direct shipping in Europe and the US, in which the business saw a 70% opt-in rate.
Vestiaire Collective CEO Max Bittner said the business is thrilled to offer Australian customers faster and more affordable shopping choices.
"Following our successful launch in Europe and the US, we’re excited to offer this popular service in Australia.
"Resale platforms like ours are an important source of income for our community during this challenging time.
"With that in mind, we are pleased to be able to extend the direct shipping service to our Australian members, offering a faster and even more affordable way to use our platform.
"Furthermore, giving our pieces a second life means we are taking fewer resources from our planet.
"It also allows us to trade and enjoy more quality pieces that will continue to endure over time," he said.
The introduction of the new service aims to address consumers’ growing desire for wardrobes that contain good quality pieces that are sustainable, in line with the growth of the resale market.
A recently released report by Vestiaire Collective and Boston Consulting Group revealed that although affordability, selection availability, and item uniqueness have contributed to the growing popularity of the secondhand market, consumers’ mounting environmental concerns are also contributing to the secondhand market’s growth.
These sentiments seem to have been accelerated during 2020, with Vestiaire's research revealing that 70% of respondents feel compelled to shop for preowned goods in an effort to become more sustainable, compared with 62% in 2018.
All brands included in Vestiaire's direct shipping service have been identified as being at low risk of non-conformity following an analysis of historical company data.
To celebrate the launch and give back to consumers during this time, Vestiaire Collective will offer free shipping on all direct shipping purchases.
Direct shipping is available on all purchases under $800.
