Spending forecasts are expected to reach $430 million this Halloween, according to research from Australian Retailers Association (ARA) in collaboration with Roy Morgan.
In its first annual survey of Halloween intentions, it found that one in four (or 5 million) Australians plan to celebrate Halloween this year. In the $430 million estimate, this equates to $86 per person.
Further, 88% of those celebrating Halloween in 2022 said they will spend the same or more than last year.
ARA CEO Paul Zahra said Halloween continues to grow in popularity in Australia.
“Halloween has become a highly anticipated seasonal event for many retailers,” Zahra said. “Businesses are coming to the party with themed windows and store displays as part of a big promotional push in the lead up to October 31.
Apparel vendors are set to capitalise on the spending, with costumes among the key sales items alongside a sweets and decorations.
“Halloween is a great time to celebrate some spooky silliness and with five million Australians expected to do so this year, the event will help build sales momentum for retailers in the run up to Christmas," Zahra said.
