Ethical Clothing Australia will receive $2 million over the next two years from the Victorian Labor government.

Industry minister Lily D'Ambrosio will make the official funding announcement today.

The funding will be used to help protect Australia's lowest income earners in the industry, as well as most exploited workers.

The ECA has also promised that some of the money will ensure a greater standard of transparency and legal compliancy across the Australian-based supply chain.

80 Australian brands and manufacturers are currently accredited to the organisation, who national manager Simon McRae, believes is one of the world's best.

“ECA's accreditation program is internationally recognised as best practise in an industry in which exploitation is endemic. Government support is crucial to ensuring the Australian TCF industry has an ethical and sustainable future.”

Ethical standards have been an increasing issue for Australian retailers and manufacturers following the factory collapse in Bangladesh which killed 1,200 clothing workers in 2013.
