Copy sting
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) suspends an online store selling counterfeit apparel. The watchdog has been granted injunctions against Bindert Kloosterman and Xin Fang Shi - the owners of designerbrandoutlet.com - by the Federal Court for selling copied labels including Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs and BCBG.
FEX hits Runway
The Melbourne edition of trade fair Fashion Exposed (FEX) unveils two quasi-famous exhibitors, in the form of contestants on reality TV show Project Runway. They are Helen Manuell - unveiling her ready to wear collection - and Project Runway finalist Petrova Hammond.
Sick threads
An unnamed uniform supplier is forced to recall 14,000 items of protective clothing after employees of an energy company fell ill from wearing the apparel. Queensland headquartered Ergon Energy said as many as 178 staff suffered allergic reactions, with symptoms including rashes and vomiting.
Mercury rising
Wholesale group Mercury Brands announces it has acquired five new labels. The Victorian-headquartered company, formerly trading as Austin Group, has acquired St Kilda based house of brands The Factoree. Mercury now has distribution rights for WESC, J & Company, Lifetime Collection, Black Orchid and Kangol.
Bulgari blooms
European luxury house Bulgari announces plans to expand its retail presence in the Victorian capital with a new Melbourne flagship store measuring 400 square metres and boasting 10 external showcases. The development will see Bulgari re-locate to 123 Collins Street this spring.
