NATIONAL: Sixtieth birthdays are not usually associated with slinky corsetry, but luxury lingerie brand Simone Perele is proving that rules are made to be broken. Founded in Paris in 1948 by corset maker Madame Simone Perele, the brand will turn 60 in style next week, with the release of a limited edition corset modelled on one from the year of its birth.

Based on one of the very first corsets Simone Perele created in 1948, the garment featured a detachable skirt and was made from Tulle and Suisse Guipure, in homage to Perele's ethos of making underwear as stylish as outer garments, a spokesperson for the brand confirmed.

"Madame Perele believed that a bra could be something more than just a body support - it could have fashion appeal.  It was a revolutionary idea for the time, and demand for the lingerie grew at such a rate that Simone Perele soon became known as the 'Coco Chanel of lingerie'."

The corset will retail for $249.99 at David Jones stores.
