NEW ZEALAND: An apparel company owned by New Zealand All Black Dan Carter has earmarked Auckland's Newmarket as the site for its latest boutique. Gas Clothing, owned by Carter and business partners Lucy Scandrett and Rhys Brooking, will join the ranks of Trelise Cooper, Alannah Hill and Kate Sylvester in operating from the recently redeveloped area.

Gas, which imports high-end denimwear from Italy, opened its first store in Christchurch two years ago, swiftly followed by a second store in New Zealand's capital Wellington.

Shortly to take up a rugby sabatical to  play in Perpignan in the 2008/09 French Top 14 rugby competition, Carter's foray into the rag trade is the first business venture he has been involved in outside rugby and his sponsorship roles with apparel brands Adidas and Jockey.
