The Diary: Bruno Schiavi
Ragtrader asked intimate apparel designer Bruno Schiavi to keep a diary of his day spent shooting the new campaign for his underwear line, a collaboration with Australian cricketer Brett Lee. This is the result.
8am
Car picked Brett up...and we are off to Triple M for radio interview with Marty Sheargold and Paul Murray. This will be the very first radio interview that we do so it will be interesting to see what they ask and how Brett answers some of the questions that get thrown to him.
9.30am
Radio interview went really well. They really had a lot of fun with the segment. Brett even bowled a few balls at Marty for the website. Love the radio phone in with Glenn Robbins with viewers choosing a name for the range. Think AceStar was the right choice.
10am
We arrive at Sun Studios in Sydney where we are shooting the ad campaign today. It should be a lot of fun. This will be the first ever underwear shoot that Brett has done but he is in great shape and it should look amazing.
10.30am
While Brett is in make up I am getting final details of the shoot sorted out with Carlos our photographer. He is an amazing photographer and I am sure he will make Brett feel very comfortable. He has shot all my ad campaigns from Delta to Priscilla Presley.
11am
Network seven crew has just arrived and they are going to be doing a behind the scenes interview with Brett and I. Brett will tell them about the development of our brand AceStar while I will chat to them about how we created the ad campaign and also why we have decided to retail this at Big W.
11.30am
Channel 7 crew are still here and taking footage of Brett and I getting ready for the first set up. Carlos and the girls from the advertising agency are just perfecting the final touches before we start shooting. It's turning out to be a great day as everyone is so relaxed. Brett looks awesome, he has really been training hard and it shows.
Noon
The newspaper arrives, it's The Daily Telegraph who has come to do a quick pre launch interview. Brett and I speak to the journalist and are now really ready to get things going. We have still not begun shooting the campaign.
12.30pm
Carlos is ready to begin shooting after just finishing some test shots to make sure his lighting looks amazing. The lighting for this shoot is crucial because we need to capture the essence of the brand. Because Brett will be wearing jeans, we need to make sure that Carlos is capturing the elastic band coming through the top of the jeans. Brett and I decided that this was going to be the direction of the ad campaign. We did not see a need for him to be shot in just the undies we wanted to keep it very classy and very real. We are thrilled with the way the test shots look.
1pm
We are well on the way now, it looks amazing. The ad campaign has a real Australian feel about it. Carlos has done a great job with the mood and lighting that he has created.
1.30pm
We have just finished the first layout of the ad campaign where Brett is wearing the blue and white trunks. Now we have switched underpants and also changed into to a new pair of jeans ready for the next shot. He is really a professional he puts 1000 per cent into everything he does. That is why it's such great pleasure to work with him.
2pm
We are almost done with Brett. It's been a long day but we have some amazing shots. The ad campaign will look amazing once Carlos and the advertising team finish putting all the final touches to it, it has been in the works for a long time and it's so rewarding to see it come full circle.
2.30pm
We are getting ready to shoot the product shots on their own because Brett was wearing jeans during the shoot and all we could see is a sneak peak of the elastic band coming through. Now we are photographing the product that will also be featured in the ad campaign.
3pm
The driver is here and ready to take Brett home, it's been an amazing day.
