SYDNEY: Australian Muslim sportswear supplier Ahiida has scored an Olympic Games coup. The Sydney-headquartered label, famous for creating a Burqini swimsuit for Australian Muslim lifesavers, will dress short distance running champion Ruqaya Al Ghasara as she takes to the tracks in Beijing today.

Ghasara will wear a locally manufactured body-covering top, including a modern Hijab, for the 200 metre sprint event. Ranked number seven in the world, Ghasara said the specially created garment had helped to improve her performance.

"It's great to finally have a high performance outfit that allows me to combine my need for modesty with a design made from breathable, moisture controlled fabric that allows freedom of movement and flexibility."

Ahiida managing director Aheda Zanetti said the brand had received "significant" international interest since rising to prominence with its Burqini swimsuit.

"Our sportswear supports women who want, for whatever reason, to wear things that are modestly cut and have useful functions like keeping their hair our of their eyes while enjoying an active, sporty lifestyle."

Zanetti is currently working with government export agency Austrade to expand her global presence.
