MELBOURNE: A new luxury inspired luggage brand looks set to bridge the gap between the "cheap and nasty" and unattainable high end labels currently polarising the market. Featuring vibrant prints in acid yellow, grey blue, multi-coloured vintage, and nautical stripe, Ellie Rogers travel bags were made from 100 per cent cotton canvas and durable leather, a spokesperson for the brand confirmed.
With its debut summer collection set for release nationally from late August at selected independent boutiques, the brand featured four models: a large duffle priced $410, a small duffle priced $350, a tote priced $280 and a zipper purse priced $80. The spokesperson confirmed that prices initially quoted to the market - including $595 for the large duffle and $120 for the zipper purse - had been revised downwards to better reflect the brand's target customer.
Designer Ellie Heine - the name behind clothing label Lulatsch, which ran for four years and sold to high-end boutiques across Australia as well as Singapore and Indonesia - said her research had shown demand for the Ellie Rogers was likely to be strong.
"There is real a gap in the market for nice travel bags – you’ve got daggy sports bags or ultra expensive luggage sets. Mine hopefully fit somewhere in the middle, for the adventurous traveller who wants to look good on route but doesn’t want to spend so much on luggage that [she] can't afford the trip."
