Myer has an eye on Dubai
NATIONAL: First Bendigo. Then Australia wide. Now department store Myer is set to take on the world. The Melbourne-headquartered giant has announced it will launch its first international store in Dubai late next year, followed by a launch into the wider United Arab Emirates (UAE) market and an entry into Eastern Europe.
The department store will partner with UAE property development company Nakheel Retail to broker its launch into Dubai. Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes said the Dubai development, set to open in the new Ibn Battuta Mall, would take on a similar format to the Myer Bondi Junction site.
"We have been focusing on getting our home market right, which we have done, and we will be opening another 15 stores, so we will outgrow Australia," Brookes told newspaper Sydney Morning Herald.
Full details on the company's international expansion strategy will be released when Myer formally announces its full year results in September.
