Studios to open their doors

MELBOURNE: Members of the public and industry could soon be stepping over thresholds of select fashion studios, with the promise of a behind-the-scenes look at the design industry for one day next month. The Studio Open day, part of the Melbourne International Design Festival, will see fashion businesses of varying sizes and disciplines open their doors on Friday July 25.

Brands that had already committed to the project included menswear label James Cameron Fashion Design and Von Fashion Design - both located in Melbourne's CBD, a spokesperson for the event confirmed.

James Cameron launched his first complete collection under his own name in 2003 and set up his first boutique in Melbourne in 2007.

"Characterised by effortless, natural and understated style, Cameron's collections appealed to the quality-conscious consumer. He goes to great lengths to make clothes 'to feel good in and live in', researching each garment right down to the finest detail."

Established in 2005 and taking its name from the Icelandic translation for 'hope', Von was fascinated by pushing the boundaries of commercial patternmaking and manufacturing methods, an approach visible in its edgy designs.

Studios are now open for bookings and appointments are essential. For further information visit nationaldesigncentre.com
