The lure of indulgence
MELBOURNE: Flying in the face of current economic belt-tightening, it seems shopping centres have decided to pull out all the stops to seduce consumers, with Melbourne Central the latest to join the fray. The month of June will see the centre offering shoppers the ultimate antidote to retail fatigue with an initiative dubbed "Too Indulgent". Describing Too Indulgent as "an array of multi-sensory temptations", a Melbourne Central spokesperson said shoppers would encounter "an atmosphere of baroque opulence and sleek sophistication," as they arrived on level two of the centre.
"Within moments, you will be greeted by your concierge for the evening and here begins an evening of pampering, tasting, relaxation and temptation."
The experience would kick off with a visit to the champagne bar, followed by the possibility of a drop-in at the centre's new Arthur Galan AG women’s store, where label founder Galan would be on hand to offer shoppers style advice. Meanwhile Italian menswear designer Dom Bagnato would be in store to design custom made suits in a selection of classic and seasonal fabrics, while Benedicte Olrik – founder of the Olrik Denmark boutique would also personally welcome shoppers to her store.
Other indulgences included mini makeovers, manicures and massages from makeup brand Napoleon and complimentary handmade chocolates from premium chocolate brand Patchi. Rounding off the evening would be live DJ performances and an array of 60’s lounge music.
Melbourne Central's first indulgence party will be held on June 13 from 6.00 to 9.00pm, with further parties on the following two Fridays.
